任天堂宣布Wii澳大利亚销量达到20万,只用了50个星期(不到1年)。Wii也成为澳大利亚初期销售最快的游戏机(包括主机和掌机)。
A week before the release of mega-super-humungous-awesome-console-shifter Super Mario Galaxy (see review here) hits store shelves in Australia, Nintendo has reminded us that the Wii doesn‘t need blockbuster games to shift units. A press release from the Big N this morning proudly proclaimed that the Nintendo Wii has become the fastest ever console or handheld to hit the 200,000 units sold mark in Australia.
It has taken the Wii just under a year – 50 weeks to be precise – to hit the figure, adding another convincing argument to Nintendo‘s claim that accessibility is more important than technology in the current market. Despite being critically ridiculed for its unspectacular software line-up, consumers have flocked to the machine for its movement control gimmick… and Nintendo are laughing all the way to the bank.
What‘s more impressive, is that we’ve yet to see the release of Pokemon Battle Revolution or Super Mario Galaxy, two genuine console shifting releases (both due out this week)。 And with the massive Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart due early next year (not to mention untapped brands like Nintendogs and Wii Fit), we wouldn‘t be surprised to see the console hit 500,000 in the next 50 weeks.
Recently we wrote an article called 10 Reasons why the Wii 2 will Launch in 2010, but the console keeps defying the odds, maybe it will stick around for longer? Congratulations Nintendo!
